Platform is now hiring! Join The Organizing Committee for Platform Case Competition 2017.

Platform is back for its third year and is looking for six highly motivated individuals to join our Organizing team!

These are volunteer positions and are open to all post-secondary institutions in Vancouver, including recent alumni. Timeline:

Benefits:
Throughout the planning and execution of the Platform Social Media Case Competition, all members will have the opportunity to strengthen their leadership, critical thinking, project management, and communication skills, and build direct and valuable relationships with industry professionals.
DIRECTOR OF SPONSORSHIP
Responsibilities:
●    Compose and assemble relevant sponsorship materials, such as the sponsorship package, proposals and emails in coordination with the Platform Chair and the Director of Marketing and Media
●    Identify and secure monetary, prize, and case sponsorship for promotional campaigns or events from old and new contacts by cold calling, emailing, and delivering walk-in presentations when necessary
●    Write reports on statuses of contacts and maintain timely communication with them
●    Negotiate with companies about sponsorship/partnership deals and encourage upgrading sponsorship levels when possible
●    Ensure that sponsors receive full benefits of sponsorship, such as logo placement and promotion via Platform networks
●    Assist the Platform Chair with Sponsorship Coordinator recruitment applications and interviews in September
●    Train and manage a team of 1-2 coordinators

Requirements:
●    Strong business writing, communication and relationship management skills
●    Outgoing personality
●    Ability to self-regulate, motivate, and take initiative
●    Clear sense of professionalism demonstrated through online and offline communication
●    Excellent time management skills and ability to visualize timelines and manage strict deadlines
●    Experience and knowledge with LinkedIn is a strong asset
●    Commitment of 5-10 hours per week
CREATIVE DIRECTOR

Responsibilities:
●    Create and design eye-catching physical and online visual promotional materials and content that adhere to Platform’s brand image, such as sponsorship materials, participant packages and main case deliverables
●    Design other engaging and fun materials with Platform branding, including business cards, banners, name tags, thank you cards, etc. as necessary
●    Keeping Platform relevant on the interwebs by maintaining and updating the Platform website in a timely manner
●    Be in charge of photography during all preceding events, such as workshops, and on the day of the competition

Requirements:

●    Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)
●    Advanced knowledge and working experience with WordPress
●    Able to create and/or revise graphic materials within tight deadlines
●    Have experience with completing multiple projects simultaneously and effectively
●    Previous experience with photography is a strong asset
●    Experience with freelance client work and working from brief is a strong asset
DIRECTOR OF MARKETING AND MEDIA
Responsibilities:
●    Plan and execute marketing strategies to increase recognition of Platform and solidify Platform’s brand image
●    Manage all Platform’s social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) with a consistent voice
●    Create engaging content and social media campaigns that encourage online conversations and interactions from followers
●    Manage live-tweets during all Platform events
●    Write and send out emails to the relevant external contacts and groups to promote Platform
●    Assist the Platform Chair with Social Media Coordinator recruitment applications and interviews in September
●    Oversee the Social Media Coordinator

Requirements:
●    Ability to write in a creative, yet clear manner
●    Ability to demonstrate knowledge of major social media tools (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat) and their corresponding functions
●    Ability to exhibit professionalism when constructing emails and communicating with industry contacts
●    Prior experience with marketing is an asset
DIRECTOR OF LOGISTICS
Responsibilities:
●    Maintain contact with Simon Fraser Student Society (SFSS) to ensure smooth operation of Platform, including but not limited to: booking rooms, A/V equipment and catering for events at SFU campuses, e.g. social events and main case presentations
●    Determine Platform team member availabilities for weekly internal meetings
●    Record clear, action-oriented meeting minutes, and relay them to the rest of the team in a timely manner
●    Manage Platform’s emails through direct response or appropriate redirections
●    Inform Social Media Network (SMN)’s Internal Operations Director on updates regarding Platform

Requirements:
●    Possess a strong sense of organization, time management and initiation
●    Clear sense of professionalism demonstrated through online and offline communication
●    Ability to visualize timelines and manage strict deadlines
●    Ability to rationally mitigate unexpected complications
DIRECTOR OF EVENTS
Responsibilities:
●    Organize events for students, including Clubs Day, icebreakers, workshops and other events in coordination with the Director of Logistics and Director of Finance
●    Build 3 workshop topics in coordination with the Platform Chair
●    Secure qualified speakers from the digital media industry for workshops via cold emailing, LinkedIn, Twitter or other outreach tools
●    Inform potential workshop speakers about sponsorship benefits and create a database to record the statuses of contacts
●    Handle bookings for social events that are coordinated with external parties
●    Coordinate promotional efforts for events with the Director of Marketing and Media
●    Oversee site setup, speakers, caterers and volunteers on the day of the events

Requirements:
●    Strong sense of professionalism, especially when communicating with external parties
●    Excellent verbal and written communication skills
●    Excellent time management skills and ability to visualize timelines and meet tight deadlines
●    Previous event organizing experience is a strong asset
●    Previous sponsorship experience is a strong asset
●    Experience with LinkedIn is an asset
DIRECTOR OF FINANCE
Responsibilities:
●    Coordinate with Simon Fraser Student Society (SFSS) to secure important grants and reimbursement per semester to ensure smooth operations of Platform
●    Organize a detailed and strategic event budget plan for Platform, and assist Organization Committee members with the development of their budgets
●    Organize and update records of unprocessed and processed event expenses on a database in a timely manner
●    Gather all information on financial matters and report these findings to the Chair of Platform

Requirements:
●    Detail-oriented and has a strong ability in budgeting
●    Excellent written and spoken communication skills
●    Possesses a strong sense of organization, time management and initiation
●    Students who are pursuing/have completed a concentration in Finance is a strong asset

 

**In addition to position-specific duties, each member will form the basis along with the Chair of the Platform and other organizing members, and will have the opportunity to help plan the event itself.
